Baku Climate Action Week Day Three Focuses on Adaptation, Resilient Cities and Local Solution

On 1 October 2025, Baku Climate Action Week entered its third day, focusing on the theme “Advancing Cross-sectoral Climate Resilience – Sustainable Agriculture, Efficient Water Use, Transport and Smart Cities; Women’s Leadership in Climate Action.”

The opening ceremony heard from COP29 President and Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Climate Issues, Mukhtar Babayev; Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov; Chair of the State Water Resources Agency, Zaur Mikayilov; FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia, Viorel Gutu; and COP29 High-Level Climate Champion and MP, Nigar Arpadarai, who extended a warm welcome to participants.

The morning sessions focused on agriculture and water resource management, highlighting the impact of climate change on food security, the application of technology and innovation in farming, the management of water scarcity and the development of efficient irrigation systems. Azerbaijani and international experts shared their experiences on sustainable agriculture and regional water management.

Discussions then turned to the transport sector, focusing on reducing carbon emissions, the expansion of electric vehicles, the use of artificial intelligence and the role of smart transport systems in tackling climate change. Participants also explored smart city solutions, sustainable urbanisation, green construction, energy efficiency and nature-based urban planning.

The conference concluded by highlighting the vital role of women in climate policy, business and innovation, and the need to boost their involvement in decision-making processes.

Meanwhile, the Youth Climate Forum, which kicked off on 30 September, brought together young leaders, policymakers, diplomats and experts to shape the climate action agenda. Across the two-day event, the pivotal role of youth in driving innovation, sustainability and collective action was firmly underlined.

Baku Climate Action Week is being held from 29 September to 3 October and, as a key COP29 initiative, aims to share cross-sectoral sustainable development strategies and strengthen international collaboration. For more details, visit Baku – Baku Climate Action
